Carnegie Mellon’s Robot Hall of Fame Joins RoboBusiness 2007 Conference and Exposition

Announcement Ceremony Highlighted at International Business Development Event for the Mobile Robotics and Intelligent Systems Industry

FRAMINGHAM, MA – April 3 , 2007 – Robotics Trends, a division of EH Publishing, Inc., today announced that Carnegie Mellon University’s Robot Hall of Fame® will unveil its 2007 inductees at the fourth annual RoboBusiness Conference and Exposition, the international business development event for mobile robotics and intelligent systems. The ceremony will include a special luncheon on May 15, 2007 sponsored by The Technology Collaborative of Pittsburgh, PA..

Lee Gutkind, author of the new book, “Almost Human: Making Robots Think,” (W.W. Norton & Co.) will be the featured luncheon speaker. Gutkind, editor of the journal Creative Nonfiction and founder of the creative nonfiction writing program at the University of Pittsburgh, spent six years observing roboticists at Carnegie Mellon’s Robotics Institute. His book provides an in-depth look at the technical pitfalls and ultimate triumphs experienced by researchers as they create new technology for autonomous robots. The RoboBusiness Conference and Exposition will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA on May 15-16, 2007. The event website is http://www.roboevent.com.

According to Dan Kara, conference chairman and President of Robotics Trends, Inc., “We are extremely pleased to announce that the 2007 Robot Hall of Fame selection announcement will be part of the RoboBusiness Conference and Exposition. The Robot Hall of Fame honors the greatest fictional and ‘real-world’ robots from around the world. With the addition of the Robot Hall of Fame luncheon, the RoboBusiness event becomes even more thought provoking, interesting and certainly more entertaining.”

According to Don Marinelli, Executive Producer of Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center, “The RoboBusiness conference attracts people from industry, government and academia who are working together so that robots can benefit society. The Robot Hall of Fame celebrates robots that already have had great impact on humankind either through practical application or creative stimulation. Combining these world-class events makes perfect sense.”

Matt Mason, Director of Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute notes, "Those of us who are developing robotic technology hope that the Robot Hall of Fame will allow the public to share the excitement we feel about the expanding role of robots in our society. RoboBusiness 2007 provides us a great platform for honoring some great robots and their creators."

In addition to The Technology Collaborative and members of its alliance, sponsors of the Robot Hall of Fame luncheon include Mellon Financial Corporation and the Regional Industrial Development Corporation of Southwestern Pennsylvania.
