About the CE Pro Channel

To some, the custom electronics profession is some brand new vocation; however, professionals have run thriving businesses by selling and installing technology into the home for at least a couple of decades.

The only thing that has really changed since CE Pro started covering the industry ten years ago is the type of technologies available for installation and integration in the home. In the early days, it was mostly security, then came home automation including lighting and thermostat control, followed by home theaters and multiroom A/V, and finally today's digital technologies inspired by the Internet revolution.

A variety of organizations and individuals count themselves among the CE Pro channel. They include home systems integrators (who specialize in the installation and integration of a full range of systems), security dealers, computer VARs, specialty retailers, home theater specialists, even electrical contractors.

They go by many names: custom installer (CI), integrator, custom retailer, low-voltage installer, electronic systems technician, systems contractor, A/V guru, VAR (value-added reseller) and CEDIA guy, for one of the organizations (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) that represents them.

Call them what you will, they’re part of the CE Pro channel, which is served by both CE Pro magazine and the Electronic House Expos. Our aim in serving this channel is to ensure that CE pros succeed in the marketplace, and that homeowners, homebuilders and other end users embrace the channel for their home technology needs.
